The body as space

More info

Our body is not only physical: it is also language, communication, freedom. But not all bodies are experienced or judged in the same way: depending on gender, some gestures are accepted, others criticized.

Detailed info

During a normal day, try observing yourself in three different moments:

-When you walk or move in a public space (school, gym, bus).
-When you are with friends and talking.
-When you are still and doing nothing.

Each time, ask yourself:

-How much space do I take up?
-If I were perceived as another gender, would it be different?
-Is there a moment when I hold back, or one when I expand?

At the end of the day, choose a small action for the next day: for example, sitting with more confidence, speaking up a bit more, or allowing a silence to last without embarrassment. Notice how others react—but above all, notice how you feel.
